Jewish Sports Hall of Fame Opens in New York

NEW YORK, NY  - After 30 years of planning and kvetching, the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame has opened in New York City in what was once the 24th and 6th Avenue bus stall.

We were the first guests to visit the museum yesterday with museum curator, Hyman Schlomo.  On the left as you first walk in are the displays for Detroit Tigers slugger Hank Greenburg and Dodger Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax.  The interest in the museum becomes more curious from here.  When we asked why there is a Rod Carew display (Carew being a black man [a shvatzah as Hyman kindly refers to him] and obviously not Jewish), the curator explained that this was the wing for Hall of Famers who were married to Jewish people.  It’s a bit of a stretch, but hey, Carew does deserve credit for staying with her so long.

If it’s a day out, plan to have other things to do- it takes about 3 minutes to see all of the displays.

Be careful as you exit the museum as you may bump your head on the ceiling.  But, most guests will not have this problem.

The museum is open from 9AM until 6PM and tickets are $6 per adult, but most guests we would expect to be entering with a 50% off coupon.
