Expos Fans Confused

MONTREAL, CA - 300 fans showed up to Exposition stadium in Montreal, PQ, yesterday for the start of the 2005 Expos baseball season.  The fans were not informed that their team had moved to Washington, D.C.

“I don’t read French”, explained one fan who was born in the city.  The fan had also claimed that he couldn’t get money back from the ‘04/’05 Canadiens home opener.  “I don’t get it, I never miss an opener.  I got shut ote this year.”

Another confounded fan said, “I was at an Expos game here last week so I was shocked to hear the team had moved.  The stadium was empty, but us Montrealers have grown used to that.  The action on the field was about the same as is ever was though.  The beer was a little warm so I should have suspected something was up.”

On a related note, Expos mascot, Youppi! [(named for English conjugation, 2^nd person singular, infinitive “to pee”); sounds funny in French, even funnier in English], rumors have been flying: First Youppi! was going to be sold to a Canadian pharmacy chain, then to a hospital. Now the latest reports have the Montreal Canadians deep in negotiations to acquire him.  The asking price is about C$100,000, US equivalent the price of a lap dance at Montreal’s club Chez Paris.
