PRIEST FILLS IN ROLE AS ATHLETIC TRAINER

What happens when your athletic trainer drops dead the day before a major championship? "It's not only deadly for the trainer," said Coach Tom Stone, "but who's gonna tape ankles?" Things seemed bleak for the East Lower South Halfway West Arkansas State's wrestling team when a priest came to the rescue.

Just before the team was about to leave the locker room, Father Ian Friskey entered the scene. Father Friskey had no prior athletic experience but was ready and willing to learn on the job. "I had experience with boys so I figured how hard could it be? No pun intended." Friskey proceeded to tape ankles, groins, and check for hernias. He added, "I have to admit once I got going things just sort of came naturally to me. I guess I might have a career in tying people up."

Wrestler Harve Monica observed, "Father took to it like a fish to water. He went over all of us like a fine tooth comb and when we got on the mat, we were checked out and ready."
