IRAQI SOCCER PLAYER HUNG FOR LETTING IN WINNING GOAL Shouting, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry" in Arabic, Saalami Al Ballani, the goalkeeper for the Iraqi national soccer team was put to death for letting in the winning goal against rival Iran. In a tight game, Al Ballani gave up the winning goal at 85:32 to break a 0-0 tie. Head coach Saoud Saiad announced in a post-game press conference that Al Ballani would be put to death. "We've tried everything to motivate our players," Saiad said. "We've tried shortening the curfew, extra laps after practice but nothing seems to work." Replacement goalie Mohammad Al Makali joked, "I guess I'd better have my life insurance paid up with Syria coming to town." Syria sporting a high powered offense which scored 8 goals against Lebanon could put pressure on Iraq's goalkeepers. Saiad remarked he may have to go "deep, deep, deep" on the bench to get through the game.
