Dancing Continues at University of Phoenix CHICAGO, IL - University of Phoenix tore through the first 3 games of the 2005 NCAA Tournament with victories over Utah State, University of Alabama Birmingham and Oklahoma State with a combined score of 876 - 142. Phoenix made it into the field of 64 in an error by the Conference Selection Committee, thinking they were the University of Arizona. In order to allow Phoenix to compete, the NCAA has ruled that they may play their games on Sony Playstation.
"I can't believe it," said Junior forward Taryn James after the loss. "We had them." Phoenix was leading early in the second half 102 - 18 when disaster struck. "We got a message on the screen, something like AOL has committed an error and needs to disconnect. We got cut off from the game. Illinois kept going and that was that." University of Phoenix lost to Illinois 124 - 102. "Obviously we would have won," said James. Phoenix averaged almost 300 points per game. The NCAA has vowed never to allow an
on-line university into the tournament again. "This was our only
shot," James added. "Now I can never live my dream of virtually
cutting down the net." |
