Ask Randy, the Sports
Psychologist*

Dear Randy,
Muscular men abound in ads and movies leaving me feel skinny and inadequate.
Images of "bare chested beefcakes" and toned athletes promoting aftershave,
sunglasses and clothes leave me increasingly feeling unhappy with my own body. I
binge eat and then feel horrible about myself and throw up. Do you have any
recommendations for a guy like me.
-Arnold, Sacramento, CA
Dear Arnold,
Don't feel bad. You're one of the millions of men who feel bad about your
inadequacy. Face it, you're not muscular, good looking, bright, or wealthy. Your
just one of us. Don't worry about those muscular guys. I think there are only
about five in the whole country and they just keep using them over and over. Use
positive self-talk. Say things like, "Hey, I'm swell" or "I like me" or "I'm
well hung." You won't feel any better about yourself but you'll work up an
appetite for that binge eating thing. Good luck.
