Ask Randy, the Sports Psychologist*

Dear Randy,
I'm a volunteer coach on the weekends. Sometimes in the heat of the moment, I yell at the kids. Okay sometimes I curse at them. But hey the little bastards never listen. And when I get nervous during a game, I chain smoke. Last week at our end of the season party for my 11-12 year old basketball team, I gave beer to some of the older kids. Just the ones that had hair under their arms. Now the parents are all over my case. What do you think I should do?
Vinny in Philly

Dear Vinny in Philly,
It sounds to me like you have the kids interest at heart. Seems like you follow the old adage, "we're just here for the kids." Vinny, you have to remember, you're a victim here. And when you're a victim, you can shrivel up and die or you stand on principle. I can't make a decision for you, I'm only a psychologist. But off the record, you're a genuine role model in my book.
