New Pope to be Elected in 'Extreme' Fashion

ROME, Italy – With the passing of Pope John Paul II, Catholic Officials have confirmed that they are looking to replace the deceased Pontiff with someone who will have a connection with young people.

Cardinal Guido Sarducci of Italy spoke on behalf of the church. “We want to reach out to the kids; let them know that the Catholic Church understands them and wants to keep them around.”  In an effort to attract and retain the younger generation, the new Pope with be elected by a series of ‘extreme’ games, similar to those participated in by many young people.

“Of course we don’t want a Pope with a broken head.  That’s why we will take the winner.”

Among the games participant must compete in will be simulated mountain climbing, broken glass walking and cliff diving.  Skateboarder and teen favorite Tony Hawk has agreed to be a judge.  Other judge positions have not yet been filled, although Christina Aguilera is rumored to be among those asked.

“It would be totally rad to help pick a new Pope,” said Hawk from his Los Angeles home.  “Plus, just imagine a Pope who could skate and cycle and stuff.  I mean, awesome.  He’ll get some converts from kids.”

The Extreme Pope Challenge is set to begin May 1st.
