FIRST ISLAMIC GAMES HELD IN SAUDI ARABIA The first ever Islamic Olympic Games opened this past weekend in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Athletes flocked to the KingDome for the opening ceremonies. Several athletes entered the stadium carrying lit torches. American flags were burned and chants of "Death to Satan" signaled the official beginning of the games. Elite athletes from the Arab world will participate in the week long festivities. The games got off to a spirited start with the "hostage throwing" competition. Several blind folded hostages were thrown from a three story platform. The winning throw by Ahmad Urmad scored a perfect 10 from the judges which sent the spectators into a frenzied cheer. In the next event, "hostage beheading and head rolling," the gold medal went to Said "Big Swing" Khalid. With one clean hit, he sent his hostage head to a record 16 foot roll. Khalid expressed great joy and humility on the victory stand. He commented, "I worked hard preparing for the games. A lot of heads rolled but to get 16 feet, is very satisfying to me."
