Sports Related Death is Not Getting Any Funnier by Anita Seervold

A football player died last week during a game.  His neck was broken.  A female boxer was killed in the ring last week when she was punched in the head.

Quite frankly, I'm not laughing.  My husband rents those 'greatest sports injury' tapes at blockbuster and I have to admit that I'll watch with him and I laugh.  I almost have to watch with him, otherwise we wouldn't spend any time together.  All he does is come home from work, open a beer, turn on the tv and ask when dinner is.

God forbid I want to go out or something.  And would it kill him to actually talk to me about something?  And if something needs to get done around the house - forget it.  I collect the change that falls out of his pockets and call old Ned from down the street and he usually can help for a few dollars.  Sure, he has plumber's ass, but at least he can get the job done.

So anyway, since these injuries are probably going to show up on one of these funniest videos things, I'm sure I'm going to wind up seeing them sometime.  I just can't believe it would be all that funny.  Not like Joe Thiesman which was a riot.

Speaking of which, I work part time at a prison.  Last month there was a riot.  Well, they called it a riot, but I didn't see anything funny about it.

But I don't really want to see these people die in a sports bloopers tape.  I might think about the families they left behind and not laugh very much.

Or maybe I will.  Send me the tape and I'll decide.

Sports injuries aren't as funny when death is involved.
