Kid’s Korner with Al Kornfield
Dear Al, My Dad wants me to be a big, league ballplayer. He makes me throw 500 pitches a day. Last year I pitched 148 games and developed rotator cuff problems. I'm 8 years old and my arm's falling off. This Saturday, I'm supposed to have surgery but Tommy Crowe is having a birthday party at Wild Bill's Dairy Ranch. Should I have the surgery or go to the birthday party. Bobby from Piscataway, NJ Dear Bobby, If you have the surgery, you'll probably need a week or two to recover. No doubt that your Dad will be frustrated that your career is stalled and he'll probably beat the dog. On the other hand, Wild Bill's Dairy Ranch has the best shakes in town. Not to mention every party goer get a great party bag with tons of treats. It seems like you have a tough decision to make. But hey, these situations test character. Either way, consider learning the knuckleball. It has extended other pitching careers that were otherwise over. Good luck.
